Week 1: Starting the process

As you noticed in the previous couple of posts, I’m embarking on a new adventure, a 12 hour race at Sri Chinmoy Belgrade Ultramarathon later this year. As I type this, we’re 12 weeks till race day and I wanted to share the breakdown of Week 1 of the training along with the plans for the current week.

Monday morning called for an easy 7-8km run and I slightly went over the prescribed distance as the legs felt fresh from the two week vacation and no running.

Tuesday:

Tuesday was 6km + strides, managed to do the 6km but no strides as the temperature was already 27c 8 AM in the morning

Thursday was the day off.

Friday:

Saturday:

Just over 9k on Saturday hit the sweet spot.

Sunday:

First 21+km in a while. The goal was to go for 2h:30m and not focus on the pace or distance. Managed to clock in just under 22km, in 2h:17m. The goal is to up this run to 3 hours in the coming weekend.

Overall:

I’ve clocked in just under 66km last week and have to admit that I feel a bit tired today. The hope is that by keeping the milage all in slow pace it will help the recovery process and help the aerobic base building phase.
